Pride of the East Flute Band

Pride of the East Flute Band marching with drummers in blue shirts

A new beginning

In July 2023, the closure of Rising Sons Flute Band left many musicians without a band to call home. Rather than let the music end, a determination grew to build something new.

In August 2023, a small group gathered in East Belfast with a shared vision to establish a new flute band that would represent its community with pride. From that meeting, Pride of the East Flute Band was born.

A name and badge with meaning

The name was chosen with purpose. It reflects both the rich heritage of East Belfast and the pride of the people who continue to keep its musical traditions alive.

The band's badge evolved through three different designs before the final version was adopted. At its centre is a blue triangle, serving as a tribute to the brave men of East Belfast who served during the Battle of the Somme in 1916.

Investing in young musicians

From the outset, the band has been committed not only to performing on parade but also to investing in the future of marching band music. Pride of the East actively encourages young people to become involved, providing tuition and support in fluting, drumming and drum majoring. By nurturing young musicians and creating a welcoming, family-friendly environment, the band is helping to ensure that East Belfast's rich musical tradition continues for generations to come.

Our first parade

With ambition and determination, members rehearsed three nights a week, working tirelessly to prepare for their debut on the road.

On 16 March 2024, Pride of the East Flute Band proudly took to the streets for its first parade.

It was more than just a first appearance; it marked the beginning of a new chapter for marching band culture in East Belfast, built on community, commitment and a shared passion for music.

Our Streets. Our Sound. Our Community.
