Music and community
Shankill Old Boys Flute Band is a community-based musical organisation from the Shankill area of Belfast. Established to promote local culture, heritage, and music, the band provides members of all ages with opportunities to develop musical skills, teamwork, discipline, and community spirit.
Supporting frontline NHS workers
Beyond participating in parades and cultural events, the band has demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting the local community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, members donated over £1,000 that had been raised for new band uniforms to help provide personal protective equipment for frontline NHS workers. Despite having been formed less than a year earlier, the band put the needs of healthcare staff ahead of its own fundraising goals.
Bringing people together
The band also helps bring people together through community events, commemorations, and charitable activities, fostering a sense of pride and belonging within the area. Through music, volunteering, and community engagement, Shankill Old Boys Flute Band continues to make a positive contribution to local life while preserving cultural traditions for future generations.
